Valerie Helbronner

Valerie Helbronner

Why did you join the board?
I joined the Board because I believe in the vision and plan for the Club and know the important role that it plays in our community. The Club has been an important part of my daughters’ development for over 10 years and I wanted to contribute to the Club in some way.

Joined Board in: 2019

What professional or other experience do you bring to the board?
I am a corporate lawyer and work on a regular basis with senior executives and board of directors in pursuing and fulfilling their corporate objectives. I have also served on a number of other non profit boards and on various industry association boards.

How many years have you been on the board? At the club?
I’ve been a member of the board for 3 years and a member of the club, as a parent for over 10 years.

What other volunteer roles have you held at NT or another youth soccer/sport team? (Team Manager, Social Manager, parent, etc.)
I was the Team Manager of my oldest daughter’s OPDL team who has now graduated from the Talented Pathway program. I am currently the manager of my younger daughter’s OPDL team.

What impact have you had as a volunteer at North Toronto Soccer?
As a team manager I’ve had the chance to organize tournaments, social gatherings and other events for my daughter’s team, which led to a tight knit group on and off the field. As a member of the board I’ve been able to advise the senior management staff on navigating legal matters, especially when COVID made a significant impact on society.

Why is a board important in a youth soccer club?
A board is important in a youth soccer club to ensure management is using best practices when making decisions that impact our club and community. A strong board ensures accountability and guidance when dealing with difficult situations and contributes to success on and off the field for the organization.
