After a strong start to the 2024 outdoor season where all 44 of our certified Club Referees successfully refereed recreational matches, a unique opportunity arose for a number of our Senior Club Referees!
The U13 Girls, U13 Boys, and U14 Boys Newfoundland provincial teams played our respective Nitros competitive A teams.
Of all three friendlies, Senior Club Referee Kate officiated the most standout match. In what was a close back-and-forth affair at Sunnybrook Park, your Nitros U13 Girls A team ultimately lost by a score of 3-4. A low setting sun made it difficult for the goalkeepers on both sides, and the match ultimately came down to who managed to take the more dangerous shots on goal.
Senior Club Referees Nik, Eva, Maddy, and Dan were involved in the other two friendlies, along with your Club Consultant Referee, Adrian, and Club Head Referee, Ben.
In other notable news, the Club’s Referee Program saw 4 match officials newly referee 11v11 recreational matches this spring. Additionally, the Club Referee Program was also proudly able to field an all-female match official crew (middle, ARs, and 4th official) to take charge over one of our 11v11 recreational tournaments this past spring season.
As for what the summer season looks like for Club Referees, development matrices will be in use to provide those officials on field with further detail and a physical copy of feedback. This will build on the efforts of referee mentorship and education sessions that the Club Referee Program emphasized in the spring.
