On June 4th our female athletes attended the Canada vs Mexico Women’s match held at BMO field. Our U8 girls had an unforgettable experience, the excitement began long before the first whistle, as the young athletes, accompanied by their dedicated coaches Tommie MacLeod and Katrena Athwal, had the honor of walking out with the players. This opportunity was not only thrilling but also incredibly inspiring for our young soccer enthusiasts.
The girls were gifted with jerseys, received autographs from their favorite players, and Coach Katrena met her idol that she grew up watching, Kadeisha Buchanan. The Canadian Women’s National team created memories forever cherished by our players and Coaches.
One of the highlights of the evening was meeting North Toronto Soccer alum Olivia Smith, a player the girls admire and look up to. Olivia’s journey from local talent to professional athlete serves as a powerful example for our young players.
This event comes at a fantastic time for women’s sports, especially in Toronto. With the recent establishment of a Toronto WNBA team, the launch of the Northern Super League, Canada’s professional women’s soccer league and the excitement surrounding AFC Toronto, there will be no shortage of role models and opportunities for young female athletes to aspire to.
We look forward to many more opportunities like this and want to thank the Canadian Women’s National Team, Tommie MacLeod, and Katrena Athwal for a memorable experience.
