A recent soccer tournament in Phoenix, Arizona left spectators on the edge of their seats as teams battled it out for the top spot at the Desert Super Cup. The stage was set for an intense competition, featuring formidable opponents from California and some of the highest-ranked teams in Arizona and the entire United States.
Our 2009 Boys OPDL team coached by Ivan Jurić faced off against tough adversaries, including the #2 spot in the state (#22 nationally) and #3-ranked team in Arizona (#30 nationally), as they were placed in the top group titled “Super Pros”. The tournament unfolded with a series of high-stakes matches that showcased the elite talent on display.
Our Nitros emerged as the leaders of their group, securing an impressive three victories and finishing at the top. This achievement was a testament to their skill, teamwork, and strategy on the field.
The pinnacle of the tournament came in the final showdown, where the team found themselves trailing 1-0 with just about three minutes remaining on the clock. Unfazed, they rallied together to equalize, forcing the match into a nail-biting penalty shootout. The team clinched victory with a 4-3 win in the penalty shootout, sealing an unforgettable triumph.
The Desert Super Cup will undoubtedly be remembered as a thrilling chapter in the team’s history.
